Another Step Back for Black-Kind

So... I don't know about you but I don't think "Obama Fried Chicken" is empowering to African-Americans following the election of B-Rock into the executive office. While Clipse is by far my favorite pair of lyricists of all time (that's right, I said, now come debate with me), they have indeed outdone themselves with their single "Popular Demand (Popeye's)" off of their upcoming album "Till The Casket Drops." The highly-anticipated third studio album from the critically-acclaimed brother combo features a new breed of Re-Up music, but the concept for the video for this track just didn't sit right with me.

Possibly the second biggest video fuck-up after "Best I Ever Had," you got Pusha T and Malice chillin' outside of a sub shop (renamed "Obama Fried Chicken") eating chicken with a group of by-standers discussing reasons as to why the fans demand more from them. But um... who the hell decided putting Cam'ron on this joint would be a lucrative decision? The man looks broker than he really is, sporting an untrimmed goatee that only accentuates his gap-toothed antics... And his verse sucks. So yeah, enjoy this Hip-Hop failure and countless reason among many as to why Obama will continue to call rappers "jackasses" (Hey Kanye.).

Alicia Keys - "Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down"

Because the song did so damn well the first time, they thought "lets make it AGAIN..." so Alicia did... and i'm sure everyone is going to flip out over this song too.

well that's about it... if this was KB or Benji Buttons... the post would be followed by some plea for Ms. Keys to marry me, or an expressin of love for her, or a paragraph about how beautiful she is... but it's not. WOMP

{JUST FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES} here is the official video for her single TRY SLEEPING WITH A BROKEN HEART...

{EVEN MORE SHITTY GIGGLES} here is a look at a track that didn't make it on AK's next album. This track is called DREAMING.

VIDEO: Timbaland featuring Drake - Say Something

yeah... don't get too excited. It's just the teasers... but I'm happy to see it's not some cheap nonsense that I've been seeing lately with the music industry (like Trey Songz latest craptastic video for this ridiculous song) i'm glad they spent more than 4 bucks on this video and recorded it in places other than someone's cousin's garage...

enjoy?

Lupe Fiasco - Enemy Of The State (A Love Story)

Happy Thanksgiving all!

It was actually sent out yesterday (which was Lady Trace-Y's Birthday, I accept PayPal FYI.) And now you can spend your journeys traveling back to school after the holidays jammin' to Mr.Fiasco, compliments of BVR.

Lupe Fiasco - Enemy Of The State (A Love Story)

[Artwork credit goes to Shake of (2)DopeBoys. He [and BVR] kinda felt the original artwork was lacking... you'll see when you download the tape. Feel free to come back and cop the better artwork later ;)]

*BTDUBS* I don't know how many of ya'll are fans but... Lupe's dropping another mixtape called Friend of the People on Christmas. [funny because all of this is coming before LASERS which was supposed to be his last album (remember lupEND anyone?). Now he's shitting music everywhere. *shrugs*] So... go ahead and start anticipating it.

Don't Call It A Comeback: Janet Jackson

Michael Jackson is...dead. Right? Ok, just checking. There were moments when I was watching Janet Jackson's new video, "Make Me" and thought "Lawd Michael done pulled a thriller and is BACK!" No seriously, when she has that hat on? I swear they look like twins. Janet's new video was bittersweet in my opinion. The song's tempo reminds me of 70s Michael, you know, back when his scarecrow ass loved to party at Studio 54. But we are also introduced to "modern Janet", as in I think time has finally caught up to her. She pulls a Mary J and has more shots of her posing then of her actually dancing, which I found to be disappointing. Regardless of the lack of choreography or the ode to "Scream", the only song she's ever done with her brother, Janet's video definitely makes me want more.

Wait... 50 Dropped A New Album?

Now, maybe I just haven't made enough of an attempt to get updated on new music lately but how come NO ONE has been makin' a big deal about Mr. Controversey himself, 50 Cent, and his new album "Before I Self Destruct?" While I admit his career has fallen off a bit and the fact that his album has been pushed back similarly to a newly-signed artist (e.g. Wale, Saigon, Charles Hamilton, B.O.B.), 50 is still 50. Or is he? You be the judge. Check out the first single from the album above, entitled "Baby By Me." The chorus is a cut from his song, "I Get Money" off of his last album, "Curtis." And although that CD went Platinum, many people considered it a failure. But I'd honestly like to see Fif pull those numbers off again with the lack of promotion he's received for this project.

Freeway's Trip to Mecca

For those of you who don't know, Freeway is a Sunni Muslim and has had an on-and-off relationship with Hip-Hop over the last couple of years due to the restrictions of his religion. As he is conflicted between some of the aspects of the game and the religion of Islam, he has somehow managed to continue his career and become a more faithful Muslim. Part of the religion requires you to take a pilgrimage (spiritual journey, step your vocab game up) to the holy land of Mecca... in Saudi Arabia. But Free didn't go alone. Apparently Jakk Frost and Loon (remember him?) wanted to get on their religious grind as well and accompany the former Roc-A-Fella MC. Peep Loon's beard.

Throwback Treasures: Glenn Lewis "Don't You Forget It"

Ok...I need a moment. [fans self with stolen MLK church fan]. Lawd knows THIS is a beautiful man. If growing up Maxwell was my Neo-Soul husband then Glenn Lewis was my boo on the side. Lewis is best known for his sultry song "Don't You Forget It" off of his 2002 debut album World Outside My Window. I honestly expected great things from this Toronto born (see Drake ain't the only attractive Blacadian) especially since it won a Juno for Best R&B/Soul Recording. Not to mention his song "Fall Again" ended up on the soundtrack to that whack Jennifer Lopez movie. You know, the one where she's chasing after the white guy who's "too good for her." Oh wait...that's the plot to practically EVERY movie she's been in since Selena, whoops my bad. ANYWAY, in 2007 he came back out with "Back For More" featuring Kardinal Offishall (another Blacadian). I wasn't really feeling the island feel. I know, he's half Tridianian and half Jamacian, but STILL it just didn't feel...authentic. And the Ginuwine-let-me-cut-off-my-cute-little-curls-because-I'm-going-in-a-different-direction-with-my-music approach didn't sit well with me either. The only part of the video that I did find entertaining was the random Mike Epps cameo and even then he had that "I don't know why I'm here either" look on his face. Regardless, I'm still patiently waiting for the return of the Glenn Lewis that was more concerned about me getting back to my home than taking me back to his.

Charles Hamilton is Back

Many people don't really know about having pride in a rapper that from your hometown. Being from Harlem, it's about Dipset and Juelz mainly. Charles Hamilton is a very different story. He is actually a dude I met back in highschool when he was still only making a couple of beats and tracks. I leave to college and the dude blows up. After a hit single "Brooklyn Girls" and some life in the limelight, some controversy and negative attention arose. Sonic the Hamilton did what hedgehogs do best, bury themselves underground. It's been almost a year now. Earlier this week it was announced that Charles Hamilton is indeed back. The sounds heard from this debut clip remind me of why people had so much respect for CH. I'm praying for the best for this dude especially since we have history. Welcome back Charles Hamilton.

Throwback Treasures: Pras "Ghetto Superstar"

I always felt bad for Pras; the same way I felt bad for Beyonce's backup singers...I mean the other 2 members of Destiny's Child. He was talented but could never quite step out from behind Lauryn andWyclef's shadows. His solo debut in '98 actually was a club banger (Ghetto Superstar whose single of the the same title was featured in Bulworth staring Halle Berry and Warren Beatty) and was expected to go far. Then...the new millenInium happened. I thought his career had resurrected in '05 with the release of Win Lose or Draw...wrong again. Personally, I liked "Haven't Found", not enough to buy the ENTIRE album but still... In 2008 he launched a website, www.platinumbrand.com, that according to its mission statement it's "a global provider of video solutions and services. Our channels broadcast interactive music, film and video productions to enlighten and entertain our viewers." Hopefully that works out for him.

This time around we got little miss sunshine, who now is a little darker than before. Rihanna and ROC nation worked hard on putting out this new, edgy, dark, warrior image for the girl mr. graffiti battered and bruised. Im not gonna lie, was never really a fan of Rihanna [yet she was looking damn good in SHUT UP AND DRIVE THO!!!]... but this new her... i think i like. she's grown and artsy, just the way i like my women. she is taking risks and tho i dont agree with all of them, i ain't gonna knock her hustle. Raterd R is a 13 track cinematic ride that makes her sound like she can sing pretty ok... well enough talking, let me hook you up.

New Chris Brown

"Crawl"...I know it has NOTHING to do with degrading women...but whenever I hear the title I just automatically assume this was something he forced Rihanna to do. There's so much wrong with this video, though it's an upgrade from "Transform Ya!" I guess he's trying, and that's all that matters, right? But seriously...those glasses have GOT to go. Thanks to him, now I think Urkel is a woman beater.
