Don't Call It A Comeback: Kandi

You know Kandi but you don't KNOW that you know Kandi. She first came on the scene in the early 90s as a member of the girl group Xscape (Tiny, T.I's partner in crime, was also a member). Then she did her solo thing in the early 2000s and actually had a hit with "Don't Think I'm Not". And then she joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and just aired all her dirty laundry. Well know she's back with a new look, sound, and album. I hate her hair. I do. Love the song but her hair? Nope. "Leave U" is the debut single off of Kandi Koated which drops December 14th.

A woman he can treat like his homie,
And take her out on the Ave. and just chill

Don't be surprised to know that sometimes women play the field
You may not believe it but it's real

Whatever it took to keep me boy
You gotta keep it up to keep me around

Anthem of the Night: "Daydreaming"

This song was legit stuck in my head last night, I just couldn't think of the words. Talk about annoying. Anyway, this is off of Kid Sister's latest album Ultraviolet. I love this Chicago native and to be honest, you should too. Did I mention it features The Lady Killer himself, Cee-lo? Yeah awesome artists normally work together.

I wanna let you know the meaning of forever
We'll be here until ties we made are severed

Let Me Put You On: Rye Rye

Rye Rye hails from B-More and for some reason I'm really feeling her style. Her music makes me feel all free and what not. She is definetly stays true to that Baltimore house music. One day I'll be able to keep up. "Sunshine" and "Bang" both feature M.I.A. and are off her upcoming album Go! Pop! Bang! which drops January '11.

I can get yo man and his friend too,
All I do is crack a smile when they fall through

When I say go, pop bang
And I say high, throw up your thing
Move to the beat, do the 2 step swing
And if you don't dance, fuck it go bang

-Artemis J

New Music: Saigon - You Make Me Sick

If you don't know who Saigon is, I don't actually blame you. It seems like a lot of MC's were projected to blow up at the mid-point of the last decade (Papoose, Jae Millz, Joe Budden, Cory Gunz) and Saigon was one of them. His "debut" album The Greatest Story Never Told has a fitting title because (correct me if I'm wrong) has been delayed for roughly 5 years. Apparently the wait is over as he announces the projected release date at the end of this video.

This video's interesting in terms of its concept. Saigon spent a lot of time in jail and was nicknamed the "Yardfather" for his presence in the rec yard commonly found in correctional facilities. The idea of taking a bunch of guys who are clearly in shape and having them do tricks off of playground monkey bars is... interesting... to say the least. Enjoy...

Let Me Put You On: iSquare

So when I first heard iSquare, the newest edition to the Bad Boy fam, I thought 'well if this ain't some wannabe Black Eyed Peas foolishness'. Then I watched their debut video "Hey Sexy Lady" and I'm going to keep it 100, they are probably the best business move Diddy has made since he signed Biggy. What I love about the group is that they each have their own distinct personality and style. You have the R&B/baby Ne-Yo/mini Taio Cruz part taken care of with M.J. I guess the ruff neck/self proclaim ladies' man will be played by 10 Beats. My favorite so far is Biddy because homeboy can legit dance but it's very theatrical. His flow has a comical college feel to it. Now Destiny, well, I don't know exactly what she does but I'm sure it's important. She seems more comfortable with the guys than Fergie was so she can stay. There's something real, youth related about them. They're all about embracing your uniqueness and not trying to follow the crowd, yet they're signed to a major label so you and I both know they better appeal to the masses if they want to get paid. I accept the irony only because they're that awesome.

Call me Evil Kinevil jumpin over things just to see you
I do a little dance just to please you
You can be my queen ill be the people

Video: Nicki Minaj - Check It Out (Feat. will.i.am)

Trace-Y here...

this is not okay.

I am thoroughly convinced that Will.I.Am and Nicki probably do coke together. that's the only explanation.

Let Me Put You On: He Say She Say

I am MAD late with this discovery and believe me, I'm extremely disappointed in myself for that one. This duo consists of Million Dollar Mano and Drea, both Chicago natives. I don't know much else about them except that they are this ish. I love "Modesty is Key" and "Crash Dummie" because it's something hardcore I can get hype to and it's strictly for the ladies.

MODESTY IS KEY by HE SAY, SHE SAY

CRASH DUMMIE by HE SAY, SHE SAY

Artemis J

Eric Benet "Sometimes I Cry" (Video)

Mr. Ex Halle Berry is back with a new album, Lost in Time, dropping next month. It's debut single "Sometimes I Cry" is a force. Lately Hamilton has been full of male narratives which is um, a break from the norm? Anyway, this song goes hard for male sensitivity which is great in all but I couldn't help thinking of how much Benet sounds like a cheap rip off of Maxwell. I also couldn't help but think if this was dedicated to a certain black X-Man superhero. Regardless, I love his voice and the shower scene leaked sex appeal.

But when we're makin love
She don't take me there like you used to
And it hurts when I lie (when I lie baby)
Help me understand how to push you out,
Forget you and let you go,
Cuz Lord knows I've tried, yeah

Things That Make You Go: C'mon Son 19

I'm a huge Ed Lover fan and an even BIGGER fan of C'mon Son. Once again Mr.Lover goes IN on Hip Hop but this time it's BET that gets their asses handed to them. He critiques the Hip Hop Awards and how The Top Rappers of the Millennium list is completely pound disrespectful.

Then And Now: 50 Cent and Beef

Recently, I came across a song I'm really feeling at the moment called "Start It Up" by G-Unit vet Lloyd Banks which contains guest appearances by Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, Ryan Leslie, and Fabolous. While such a track at face has nothing to do with 50 Cent, it did bring about a few revelations that I feel are noteworthy in today's Hip-Hop climate. Remember the days when Fif had beef with virtually EVERYBODY and restricted himself to collaborations with just a few individuals (most of which were from his own camp?) Things have changed... quite extraordinarily.

Lloyd Banks, the right-hand man to the G-Unit ensemble, has openly collaborated with two well-known foes of 50: Kanye West and Fabolous. If you recall, 50 promised to retire from Rap if his album Curtis sold less records than Kanye's 808's and Heartbreak when both artists released their respective projects on the same date (a battle which 50 did indeed lose but proceeded to release another studio album since). Also reference the jabs 50 took at Kanye following 'Ye's release of "Love Lockdown." And pertaining to Fab, these two took swipes at each other over a Tweet of all things after Fabolous pointed out that 50 Cent's offering to a variety of artists to perform at a thisis50.com event would seem proposterous in 2005 at the height of 50's heavy involvement with beef. 50 replied by discrediting Fabolous as an artist and suggesting he would not work with him.

On to 2010. It seems as if in the past, 50's presence in Rap had a heavy influence on who G-Unit surrounded themselves by but things seem to have changed. With the recent success of Lloyd Banks's Gold-certified track "Beamer, Benz, Bentley" (which featured another foe of Fif's, Juelz Santana), Banks is exhibiting a little independence from the G-Unit head honcho. Is this just a sign of Lloyd Banks attaining more freedom to work with anyone in Hip-Hop or is this a sign that the tactics used in 50's past are just not working anymore? You be the judge.

Around The Way: Canada

I really wish I had more info on Eternia. All I can say is that she's Canadian and has really been slept on. It bothers me that real female rappers have to stay underground because they keep it 100 while the mainstream ones get all the exposure. Just not fair.

Chris Brown "Yeah 3X" (Video)

So I guess when you want your career saved you make club music. It worked for Usher. I love that not too long ago Chris was with Tyga and chopping them deuces. Now he's dancing with children. Ok...I'm going to go along with this Michael Jackson moment. I really feel like this would be performed on the Kids Choice Awards. And to be honest, I have no problem with that. I'm digginh this video, and in some odd ways digging this Chris Brown, though it's obvious that he had Jason Derulo have the same stylist. "Yeah 3x" is the debut single off of his upcoming album F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies) which is due out either at the end of this year or sometime in early '11. I applaud him for FINALLY exhaling and telling everyone to STFU. I wish him the best. Oh and once again he kills it with the dancing.

I hope this lasts awhile
We should make this last awhile

Asa (ASHA) hails from France though she's of Nigerian decent. I love her cool doo woop 60s style. "Be My Man" is off of her upcoming album Beautiful Imperfection, due out this Monday.

We can argue we can even start a fight
and I can laugh and say I love the way you smile
And everything would be just fine

BVR "exclusive" interview: Drake talks sex, breakups and more...

Trace-Y here...

Drake Spoke Out On First Date Sex, Relationships And Breakups for the latest issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine. Since Blue Vinyl and Cosmo are tight*, we have the interview for y'all to read.

What’s the secret to a happy relationship?

Acceptance. You’ve got to be comfortable enough to be completely naked with lights on and the curtains open.

Is sex on the first date a deal-breaker?

No, I don’t get why women think that. You’re telling yourself that all you have to offer is your body and the physical act. There’s more to you than that. If I like somebody, there’s so many great things to look forward to, even if we do it on the first night.

Is it hard for guys to get over breakups?

Definitely. Even after a long time, it’s painful to see an ex with somebody else. As happy as you are that she’s happy, there’s a little tingle underneath your heart. It’s not a sting. But it hurts a bit, and you wish it wasn’t there.

If a woman is into a guy, how should she get his attention?

I’m shy, so I like when she comes up and says “Hey, how are you doing?” That lets me know she wants to talk. The scariest thing is when you look at a woman and think of a million reasons why she wouldn’t want to.

What’s the best compliment a woman can give a guy?

I never mind hearing “You look nice tonight.” Guys put in a lot of silent effort. When I’m going on a date, I’m getting a haircut, I’ve got a new outfit, and I’m wearing cologne. So it’s nice when it’s noticed.

* they don't know who we are.

So this Soror (reps AKA so respect the pink and green) comes out of Houston (I SEE YOU LADY TRACE-Y!) and she got her B.A. in Fine Arts from Howard (HBCUs STAND UP!). I really can't compare to anyone in the game. I mean now that she's cut her hair she looks kinda like Keri Hilson but trust, polar opposites. I like her more as a rapper than a singer. She's more aggressive and comical when she spits. I'm obsessed with her because she keeps me HYPED which is perfect now that midterms have rolled around. Her mixtape That Pink, That Green: Volume 3 is out right now.

The Connect: Octopus Jones – Angler Fishing (Beat Tape)

Yo! KiDBLaCK here. So as promised, im CONNECTing you with the beat tape used as background music on this weeks episode. it comes from my man Octopus Jones and it is jammin. Heres whats known about this particular beat tape.

St.Louis producer, Khris P of KReam Team aka Octopus Jones brings an instrumental album for your listening pleasure. Known as a composer, he takes samples and flips them with ease, using them as if they were chords on a keyboard. The title Angler Fishing is based on the saying “there are plenty of fish in the sea.” Though that’s true, everyone is looking for the one that stands out from the rest. Once the fish is caught, one does not know the outcome until they’ve experienced it. The tape is centered around love, detailing the hardships, joy, confusion, and euphoric state one can go through while being in it.
