Jay-Z, Biggie, and FRANK SINATRA?!!!
So a friend of mine thought I'd be into this mash-up between Jigga, Biggie, and the great Frank Sinatra. Turns out I'm in love with it. I'm a huge fan of samples and this mixtape is nothing further from a Kanye-Puff Daddy extract-fest. Although I don't know who specifically hosted or did the mixtape itself, it's pretty good and worth checking out. You'll need a "DatPiff" account to download it but it's worth it people.

HOT OR NOT
Nas & Damian Marley – Strong Will Continue
Nas @ 2009 Grammys
"Right now, I'll tell you first, I'm working on an album with Damian Marley, that should drop in June. We tryin' to build some schools in Africa with this one, and trying to build empowerment," he said. "We're tryin' to show love and stuff with this album. So, the record's … all about really the 'hood and Africa also as well."
Marley @ Rolling Stone
"We're trying to have a sound that's reminiscent of both of us, but not exactly like either," says Marley, who adds they cut the disc with a live band. Proceeds will go to a project in Africa — possibly building a school in the Congo — and songs like "Count Your Blessings" reflect on the plight of the continent. "A lot of charity albums come off corny," says Marley. "We want this to be something you'd play in your car."
wikipedia
The album's content will heavily revolve around Africa, from ancestry and poverty. The duo worked to maintain the theme, which will contain samples from African music. The album will offer their social commentary of the United States and Africa.
Album should be out... this year

Ludacris - Conjure [MIXTAPE]
i guess he's been "ingcognegro" so long he needs to release a mixtape before he puts out that Battle of the Sexes album. Whatever the reason, can't turn away free Luda! My favorite track is his remix to Robin Thicke's Sex Therapy...

Don't Call It A Comeback: Sade
Beyonce To Take a Break From Music
Beyonce is about to wrap up her 11 month world tour next month and she’s ready to to take a break until mid 2010.
She tells USA Today
, “It’s definitely time to take a break, to recharge my batteries. I’d like to take about six months and not go into the studio. I need to just live life, to be inspired by things again. I’m going to do random things. I want to go to restaurants, maybe take a class and see some movies and Broadway shows.”
It won’t be easy for Beyonce to stay from music and the studio, but this woman deservers a break! she continued to say, “It will be the hardest thing in the world for me to make myself not do an album and shoot a video and turn it in and say, ‘I’m ready!’ I already have all these melodies and ideas in my head. I have to tell myself, ‘Sit down! Sit down’.”
This really isn't news. It's about time Beyonce calmed down and stepped away from recording equipment. I'm interested to see if she can be inspired to make music that doesn't sound like she represents hoodrats across America.
The thing is, she's just taking a break of a few months. Reading this made me feel a tad sad for her, I kinda feel like all she knows how to do is make music and nothing else, especially since she thinks doing things like EATING and ENTERTAINING herself are "random things." I guess that's what happens when you've been under the control of abusive parents.

Sample of the Night: "Think Good Thoughts"
So it turns out I really like "Sweet Love" by Anita Baker (as posted by Artemis J). And it just so happens that Drake did a track that sampled the Baker track and was produced by 9th Wonder (mind you, this was on "Comeback Season"). Enjoy.

Charles Hamilton-Normalcy EP
Another Take...
Normalcy marks Charles Hamilton's return with a release of an entire EP. The two songs I leaked over the past month were only a glimpse of what is stored in Normalcy. ATM is feeling a bit bitter right now. Understand that no rappers or anything new ever comes out of Boston. I for one will give the thumbs up on Chuck's new mixtape. I guess I'm on that Harlem flow for 2010. Give it a listen, you won't regret it. Now if you'll excuse me I have to get back to bumping Chuck/Juelz. A!

The Connect: [Simple]...an EP
Welcome back losers and lames, it's ya boi KID BLACK back in twentyten. Im bringing you some music from... myself. Simile of the DownBeat Keys is thinking about writing a screen play... but started with the soundtrack. Thats right. The movie idea takes place 5 years ahead of whenever the viewer sees it. Following the sad tale of a boy who gets addicted to the darkside of the good life and loses everything, including the people he loves... but is trippy, becaue thats how the darkside of the goodlife feels...anywho, this is for you. Listen and watch it with your ears...
Rappers and Guns
Where do I begin... So Benzino decided to take shots at Detroit rapper Royce Da 5'9 (member of the rap group Slaughterhouse) a couple weeks back allegedly stemming from the group's refusal to do an interview with "his magazine." To be honest with you, I don't know if this magazine is the Source 'cause as I recall, he left his editor-in-chief position years ago. But that's besides the point. The point is... Benzino got pretty belligerent flashing all types of guns in the video going after Royce. But things didn't end there.
A few days ago, Slaughterhouse member Crooked I got online to respond to Benzino's video. My only issue with the action taken by Crook' was the fact that I don't recall Benzino ever saying anything directly towards him... but once again, that's besides the point. The point is, Crooked I made a valuable and noteworthy statement by claiming that Benzino's decision to show guns was not gangster and was self-incriminating, possibly linking Benzino to the police. I don't think Royce got the message.
Above is a video of Royce Da 5'9 finally responding to Benzino himself except he goes as far as showing what appears to be a WWII-style machine gun and rocket launcher... that shit is UNNECESSARY! Unless you are personally fighthing against Al-Queda in the War on Terror, there is no reason for you to have a rocket launcher! You rap for a living... if you didn't do that, you would probably be a security guard at some department store. And if I recollect right, I've never seen a dude at Macy's with an AK-47. Too many rappers... entertainers at that (see Plaxico Burress and Gilbert Arenas) have been making the unwise decision of protecting themselves by reckless means. If you need military artillery to protect yourself... honestly, reconsider what the hell you rap about and take control of your demons.

BLUETUBE [Rising Stars of twentyten edition...] Nicki Minaj
... this is the future of entertainment everyone. She reminds me of girls that went to my highschool. and who else noticed that throughout that entire ordeal who stylist team didn't do ANYTHING to her but curl her ends a little bit? Did it take ALL OF THEM to do that?
i wish her manager didn't act like Robin Thicke didn't just grant Minaj her freedom, but hey, every ghetto chick needs an aunt Jemima figure following her around.
so what can we expect from Nicki in twentyten? a verse on Mariah Carey's "Up Out My Face" remix. wow.
